Using the Pectus Bar, the deformed bone structure of the thorax (chest wall, sternum, etc.) is moved from the inside to the outside as a result of support and counter pressure, thus correcting the deformity.
The implants are not suitable for replacing chest wall structures. With the aid of the bars it is possible to press the funnel chest outwards. However, it is not always possible to plan or foresee to what extent the short, medium and long-term correction of the deformity can be achieved.
Reduction of the sternum is performed using the tunneling instrument. The outcome achieved in this way can then be fixed and maintained by the in situ pre-shaped implant. The cosmetic outcome cannot always be predicted prior to surgery.
